France is internationally renowned for Ballet Dance and its Couture designers. The two universes meet thanks to choreographer Bianca Li in her new show Goddesses & Demonesses.
Bianca Li, Spain native dancer and choreographer settled in Paris in 1993 to install her own contemporary dance company, with major pieces at her repertory since. She opens up her own dance studios there in 1998.
She has created several well known choreographies including some for the Paris Opera Ballet, the Metropolitan Opera; for film maker like Michel Gondry or for musical artists like Daft Punk. With Bianca Li, everything begins and ends in the energy of movement and dance.
Goddesses and Demonesses, that has its US premiere at New York City Center for 3 night limited engagement (March 30 to April 1st) mixes modern dance, flamenco and ballet, which Bianca Li choreographed for herself and Maria Alexandrova - Bolshoi Ballet principal dancer. The show is an hymn to femininity inspired by Greek mythology. Li and Alexandrova explore the dual nature of femininity ranging from nurturing to femme fatales.
To feel the power of the goddesses on stage, the 2 dancers had to look like one. Thanks to original costumes from world's famous designers - Jean Paul Gaultier, Sophie Theallet, Azzenine Alaia and Stella MsCarney - the magic happens. The 2 dancers make the dress alive and the 2 universes fits perfectly. Just listen to the fabrics.
